Last summer i got to go see Slint performing spiderlandat koko. Despite what a lot of people say about the venue, it seemed to suit the tone of the now legendary group, and their set was a hundred times better than i expected, and it proved a great reminder of a) just how good slint are and b) how many bands drew on the inventive drum patterns, brooding basslines and menacing guitars. 'Good Morning, Captain' was the stand out track and is still one of my all time favourite tracks. Get your mitts round this one!

Arab Strap ended their 10 year career in 2006, but Adrian Moffat and Malcom Middleton branched off to continue with their solo material, and are still touring and recording in and around the UK. While usually mind numbingly miserable, the opening track to their greatest hits (of sorts) Ten Years of Tears is a brief, sweet song which would probably work well as an opener to any lovey dovey mixtape. As it's pretty short, i've linked to my favourite Girl Talk track, probably the one where the cutting, mashing and pasting comes together in the best kind of way.

It's got to the time of year the term 'anthem of summer 2008' is being banded about. One track that should definately make the cut is The Twelves's remix of Black Kid's track 'I'm not going to to teach my boyfriend how to dance with you' The Twelves are an electronic duo from Brazil and this Black Kids remix is surely a sign of bigger things to come. Black kids have been around since 2006 before falling out of the limelight for a bit, as it seems all the cool kids are so over 2007, but recently they've come back into the swing of things, touring with Kate Nash (?) of all people, as well as doing the vice live tour in the UK earlier in the year, along with Friendly Fires and Ipso Facto. The track makes me think of CSS before they got big and everyone realised they had no other songs, and the remix is sure to be on every self respecting DJ's playlist this summer. As the blog from letssexyfighting says, it'll do your body good!
